Taurine is a highly bioactive amino acid that is necessary for overall health. It can be deduced by the fact that taurine is found in almost every vital organ of the body, regardless of a person’s age.
Contained only in animal products, it can also be synthesized within the body, but at a much lower rate after age 40. Contained in its highest levels in the heart, brain and retinal tissues (50%). Taurine is especially important for the cardiovascular system: it improves blood circulation and vascular tone, regulates calcium, potassium, magnesium and sodium concentrations, helps maintain a stable heart rate, cardiac muscle energy, and vascular health. Taurine reduces the generation of LDL cholesterol, and improves bile production and liver function.
